Who are the Redemptorists?

In the eighteenth century a promising young lawyer called Alphonsus de Liguori felt he was being called to make a difference for the poor and abandoned of his day. He also asked the question "what must I do to inherit eternal life? In what way am I being called to be fulfilled, to have a life worth living?"

He found his answer in forming a small band of missionary brothers in Italy. He did this with the help of a visionary sister and co-founder of the Redemptorists, her name was Maria Celeste Crostarosa. They decided that the missionaries would be called 'The Congregation of the most Holy Redeemer'. That congregation is also known as the 'Redemptorists' and still thrives today, all around the world.

There are over 6,000 Redemptorist priests and brothers, and their presence is felt in every corner of the world. In whatever way they can, they try to bring Jesus into the very heart of daily life. For more information on the Redemptorists visit the Redemptorists of the London Province website.

RYM London Province

The Redemptorist Congregation is divided into geographical regions and within each there are different Provinces. One of these is called the 'London Province' and we operate within this.

Redemptorist Youth Ministry (London Province) is composed of young people from England, Scotland and Zimbabwe. There are Redemptorist parishes and centres in these countries and most of us have encountered the work of the Redemptorists, and have been attracted by it, in these places.

We meet on a regular basis and this website will give you a flavour of the kinds of activities that we get up to and our overall ministry.
