Lviv, July 2009: Preparation Meeting for Lviv 2010

Redemptorists and young people from all over Europe gathered together in Holosko, Lviv, on 10-14 July 2009 to discuss and prepare for the next European Redemptorist Congress due to take place in Lviv in August 2010. Sarah Frater, Roisín Coll and Dominic O'Toole CSsR from the London Province travelled to the Ukraine (via Poland) and after an adventurous border crossing arrived safely in the wonderful Redemptorist seminary in the city of Lviv. Other young people and Redemptorist representatives attended from Warsaw, Vienna, Munich, St Clements, Strasbourg, Rome, Dublin, Madrid, Bratislava and Naples and joined with the host Province as they prepared for this exciting event.

The theme of the Congress will be 'TO BE LIKE YOU' which will have two meanings: to be like Jesus and also to recognise the good qualities in one another and to imitate this. The delegates visited the site of the congress, Khutorivka, to assess its suitability as a venue. All were delighted with the quality of the facilities, including sleeping and dining accommodation and space for workshops, socialising and liturgy. The excellent facilities will be able to accommodate a slightly reduced number of delegates (compared with previous congresses) however it will be much more accessible for those from the East of the continent and it promises to be an exciting meeting of Eastern and Western European culture.

During the Congress delegates from London Province will have the opportunity to share in our own traditional Latin Rite (Mass) but we will also worship together in the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Rite (Divine Liturgy). Sarah, Roisín and Dominic were privileged to experience both during their trip and agree that Divine Liturgy will be a highlight for those attending the Congress next year.

The city itself is beautiful and its cafes, ornate churches and colourful culture await a visit from the London Province RYM next year! Stay tuned to find out how to apply to be part of Lviv 2010.
